SANDSTONE FLOOR CLEANING AND SEALING IN, MANCHESTER

Our customer in StalyBridge , Tameside, Manchester had this beautiful sandstone floor laid about a year before we were called out. On arrival I got told the stone floor always been this dull and takes all the water and dirt in straight away, which means the sandstone slabs were never sealed before. On top of that they had building works for about 6 months in the house which didn't help with the look of the floor. I made a quick cleaning tester and told the floor will be transformed when we're finished with it

For cleaning the sandstone floor we used our alkaline based gel formula cleaner. We had to use gel cleaner because the sandstone wasn't sealed before and any liquids we poured on it was soaking in straight away but gel stays on top of the stone and breaks down the dirt. We left the gel cleaner on the stone floor for about 15 minutes and then scrubbed with scrubbing brushes attached to our rotary machine, followed by rinsing the floor with clean water and removing all soiled water with wet vacuum. As it was a rough textured sandstone there were still small bits to go over by hand. We repeated the same cleaning process on problem areas but this time we used our scraper and hand brush instead of the rotary machine. When finished with the sandstone floor cleaning, we left it to dry till the next day.

For Sandstone S ealingwe first used 2 coats of our colour enhancing impregnating sealer. Impregnating sealer penetrates in the stone sruface and enhances sandstone natural colours. After application we left it to dry for couple of hours and then used our water based topical sealer. Topical sealer was needed because customer had a real nightmare with the sandstone floor maintenance but topical sealer solves that problem by forming a film on top of the stone, which makes the cleaning much easier.
In total we used 3 coats of the topical sealer. After the impregnating sealer we thought the floor looked great but topical sealer brought out even more colours and left a fantastic finish on the sandstone.
