Shower Cubicle Restoration in Manchester

On this job we got called out to see this mouldy poorly ventilated shower cubicle in Walkden. Walkden is a suburban town in the City of Salford , Greater Manchester , 6 miles northwest of Salford, and 7 miles of Manchester. Historically in the township of Worsleyin Lancashire, Walkden was a centre for coal mining and textile manufacture.
After doing a quick cleaning tester and showing our treatment procedures our customer was happy to proceed with work.

Cleaning Mouldy Shower Tiles and Grout

For cleaning the shower grout and tiles I used a strong mix of our acid cleaner, which is not safe to breathe in, so I had to wear a filtered mask on this job. I sprayed the acid cleaner on tiles and grout and followed up by scrubbing them with a stiff brush. For grout I used my grout cleaning brush. Straight after scrubbing wall was rinsed with clean water from the shower head. Cleaning took us a while as the sandstone type ceramic tiles had a lot of texture and it wasn't easy to get them cleaned.

All cleaning done, I removed the old silicone which again was very hard and time consuming with these tiles because of the texture. When all silicone sealant was removed I dried up the grout and tiles with my heat gun.

Shower Cubicle Grout Colouring

Next up was grout colouring with customer selected colour, which was sandstone colour this time. Our grout colourants are all epoxy based and they rejuvenate and protect the grout for years to come.
Colourant get applied with a soft toothbrush cut to size and any excess gets wiped off from tiles. On this occasion 1 coat of the colourant was plenty, so we started siliconing.
For siliconing we used a white high quality mould resistant silicone sealant, which leaved a nice and fresh look to the shower area.

Sometimes, even small mistakes during tiling can create major problems. One of our clients recently experienced this when their tiler failed to seal the tiles and did not properly clean off excess grout and adhesive. The result was a persistent grout haze that seemed impossible to remove. After consulting two professional cleaning companies , the client was told the haze had seeped into the porous tiles , making it essentially permanent.
