Mouldy Discoloured Shower Cubicle Restored and Resealed in Castlefield, Manchester

On this occasion we got called out to beautiful castlefield in Manchester City Centre.It is home to a Roman fort, networks of canals, old mills, new bars, sophisticated restaurants and a wide range of accommodation. Our customer had trouble with poorly ventilated bathroomsshower cubicle. Groutwas heavily discoloured and moudly. We explained our work process to customer and also did a quick cleaning tester. Customer was impressed by the cleaning result and booked us in to do the job.

Grout and Tiles Cleaning

For cleaning this shower cubicle wall tiles and grout we used grout colouring pre treat cleaner. It is acid based product that deep cleans and etches grout lines for perfect grout coloring results. Cleaning product got sprayed on walls and then left to dwell for about 5 minutes. This was followed up by scrubbing grout lines with our specially designed grout brush and tiles were cleaned with our hand scrubbing pad.
After cleaning we neutralised all chemicals and washed off any soiled water with clean water and then dried the walls.

All walls clean and dried out, it was time to remove the old silicone sealant with our knife and window scraper. When Removing the silicone it is important to get it all out as if you leave any mouldy silicone there, then it starts eating the new one pretty quickly.
After removing sealant, next up was grout colouring. For grout colouring we usewaterborne epoxy that recolours, seals and rejuvenates existing grout joints. You can use it on sanded, unsanded and epoxy grout joints. It got applied on with special brush and then excess polished off the tiles.
Lastly it was time to reseal the shower cubicle with silicone sealant. We only use the best mould resistant high quality sealants and pride ourselves with perfect grout lines.

Sometimes, even small mistakes during tiling can create major problems. One of our clients recently experienced this when their tiler failed to seal the tiles and did not properly clean off excess grout and adhesive. The result was a persistent grout haze that seemed impossible to remove. After consulting two professional cleaning companies , the client was told the haze had seeped into the porous tiles , making it essentially permanent. Desperate to save their tiles, their builder even tried brick acid , which unfortunately damaged the tiles further .
