RESTORING THE ELEGANCE: DEEP CLEANING A STONE FLOOR WITH ENGRAINED DIRT

Quality Tile Care • Sep 17, 2023

The Challenge: Engrained Dirt

When it comes to reviving the beauty of your stone floors, sometimes a simple sweep and mop just won't cut it. Engrained dirt and grime can diminish the luster of your stone surfaces, leaving them looking dull and in need of some serious attention. That's precisely when the expertise of professionals comes into play. Quality Tile Care recently took on a challenging project to deep clean a stone floor that had seen better days.

Our client reached out to us with a stone floor that had lost its beauty over the years due to heavy foot traffic and inadequate cleaning. The stone's natural elegance was concealed beneath layers of dirt, making the room appear dull and lifeless. It was clear that a regular cleaning routine wasn't enough to address the problem.

The Solution: Deep cleaning and Sealing

Recognising the challenge at hand, the Quality Tile Care team embarked on a comprehensive deep cleaning mission. Here's how we transformed the dirty stone floor:

1. Thorough Assessment: Our first step was to carefully assess the floor's condition. We identified areas with the most engrained dirt and determined the appropriate cleaning methods for the specific type of stone used.

2. Tailored Cleaning Solutions: One size does not fit all when it comes to stone cleaning. We selected a cleaning product specifically designed for the type of stone in question. This ensured that the cleaning process would effectively remove dirt without harming the stone's surface.

3. Spot Testing: Before proceeding, we performed a spot test in an inconspicuous area to ensure that the chosen cleaning solution was safe and wouldn't alter the stone's appearance.

4. Gentle Scrubbing: Armed with diamond brushes and cleaning machines, we meticulously scrubbed the floor.

5. Thorough Rinsing: After each scrubbing session, we thoroughly rinsed the area with clean, warm water. This step was crucial to remove any residual cleaning solution and dirt.

7. Sealing: Depending on the stone's requirements, we offered the option of sealing to protect it from future damage and make future cleaning easier. We applied a breathable color-enhancing impregnating sealer to the stone floor, and this particular sealer was specifically chosen for its compatibility with the stone surface. The alternative option was to seal the floor using a natural finish impregnating sealer that preserves the stone's original colors without enhancing them. However, after discussing the choices with the client, they expressed a preference for the color-enhancing sealer.
