QUARRY TILED FLOOR CLEANING AND SEALING IN URMSTON, TRAFFORD, MANCHESTER

This time we got contacted by a customer who found us from google search and just had installed these reowned quarry tiles in his kitchenin Urmston. Urmston is a town in Trafford , Greater Manchester. The town has early medieval origins, and until the arrival of the railway in 1873 was a small farming community. The railway acted as a catalyst, transforming the town into a residence for the middle classes. Today, Urmston is one of the major urban areas in Trafford as it includes the areas of Davyhulme and Flixton.
After quoting the job we agreed on the work date quickly, because quarry is a very porous material and will absorb anything dropped on it when not sealed properly. Plus builders had left a mess on the floor as you can see from the photo below.

For cleaning these quarry tiles our tile cleaners used grout cleaning acid based cleaner. We only had to make a medium solution for this floor as we found out when we completed our cleaning tester. The cleaning solution got sprayed on floor and the scrubbed almost immediately with scrubbing pad fitted to rotary machine. After scrubbing all solution got removed from tiles with wet vacuum and then rinsed several times with water.
Problem was these quarry tiles were never sealed before so they were very porous, so we could only work with small areas because floor was drinking all the water in with very short time. After cleaning, the quarry tiled floor it was left to dry till sealing .

When we returned to seal this floor we quickly checked the dampness in tiles with our damp tester and found few problem areas. For damp areas we used our heat gun to dry them out, it took us a while but we archieved the required result.
For sealing these beautiful quarry tiles we used colour enhancing impregnating sealer, which is in surface penetrating type of matt sealer, allowing it to breathe. To learn more about sealers click Here.
We applied the sealed with paint pad and left it to soak in for about 20 mins. After letting it soak in the quarry tiles, all excess on surface got wiped off with cotton cloths. In total this quarry floor took 3 fat coats of the sealer.

I think it's fair to say, the difference is brilliant but most importantly our customer have a peace in mind as the floor is properly sealed now.
